By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two prisoners on remand for murder, Santos Eduardo Lopez Zepeda, 25, and Angel Adolfo Garcia Alvarez, made their first court appearance last Friday since their recapture following an escape in October 2024.
The men are charged with the August 17, 2020, murder of 59-year-old Rosa Chinchilla, who was found dead inside her Lindo’s Alley home in Belize City.
Appearing before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court, their case was adjourned to January 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. The delay is due to the need for a Spanish-language translator for Zepeda, which the court has yet to secure.
The duo’s escape occurred on October 11, 2024, while being transported back to the Belize Central Prison. Their freedom was short-lived, as both were recaptured within 24 hours.
The case remains ongoing as the court works to address logistical challenges for the upcoming trial.
