By Aaron Humes, Independence, Stann Creek District: For most of this week, the Port of Big Creek outside of Independence Village, Stann Creek District, has been host to the ship M/V Federal Tiber, which is collecting a record haul.
Some 39,000 metric tons of raw sugar is being loaded for shipment, the most ever in the history of the industry. Its sale will fetch up to $50 million.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Dr Osmond Martinez reiterated the Government’s commitment to helping farmers and the industry, ensuring that the savings BSI makes from switching from Belize City is spread around the industry.
