By Horace Palacio: Passy Haylock, owner of Gully Grill and the driving force behind the #JustADollar fundraising campaign, has announced the initiative will officially close on December 20, 2024. The decision comes after Haylock faced personal attacks from family members of the victims of the tragic San Ignacio traffic accident, which the campaign sought to support.

The #JustADollar campaign, which aimed to provide financial relief for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other urgent needs, initially received widespread community support. However, Haylock revealed that two family members of the accident victims had criticized and attacked him, shifting the focus away from the campaign’s humanitarian goals.

“Instead of focusing on the love and memory of their loved ones, they focused on money,” Haylock said in a heartfelt statement. He expressed disappointment over the challenges he faced and the emotional toll it has taken. “Since this campaign started, I have barely slept or eaten.”

Despite the closure of the campaign, Haylock has already begun distributing funds to the families affected by the accident. He expressed gratitude to those who contributed, emphasizing that their generosity has made a meaningful impact during this difficult time.

While the campaign is winding down, Haylock is organizing a final fundraiser at Gully Grill this weekend. The event will feature live music, food, and entertainment, with all proceeds going toward the accident victims. Haylock is encouraging the community to attend and support this last effort to help those in need.

“Even though this campaign is ending, the spirit of giving and community support must live on,” Haylock said. “This is about helping families recover and move forward.”

The announcement of the campaign’s closure has sparked a mix of reactions, with many offering words of encouragement and support for Haylock’s efforts. The fundraiser at Gully Grill is expected to draw a significant crowd, providing one last opportunity for the community to come together in solidarity.
