By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize will be one of 14 countries that qualified to compete in the 2025 Gold Cup Preliminary Round (Prelims) after eliminating French Guiana.
After November’s Concacaf Nations League matches were completed on Tuesday, Concacaf announced the national teams and matchups for the 2025 Gold Cup Preliminary Round (Prelims). The Prelims will take place during the FIFA Match Window in March 2025 and will feature seven home-and-away series.
The 14 competing national teams are from three categories in the Concacaf Nations League:
8 League A teams:
- Quarterfinal losing teams: Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica, and Suriname
- Group Stage Third Place Finishers: Guatemala and Nicaragua
- Group Stage Fourth Place Finishers: Martinique and Trinidad and Tobago
2 League B teams:
- Two best second-place finishers: Bermuda and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
4 Play-In teams:
- Play-In Winners: Belize, Cuba, Guadeloupe, and Guyana
To determine the matchups, Concacaf ranked the participating national teams 1-14 based on the Concacaf Rankings, with the highest-ranked team taking on the lowest-ranked team (1 vs 14).

- Costa Rica
- Jamaica
- Honduras
- Guatemala
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Martinique
- Nicaragua
- Guadeloupe
- Suriname
- Cuba
- Guyana

- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
- Belize
The winners of the seven matchups will advance to the Group Stage of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. Concacaf said the schedule for the Prelims will be announced later.
Concacaf announced the seven matchups as follows:
(1) Costa Rica vs Belize (14)
(2) Jamaica vs Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (13)
(3) Honduras vs Bermuda (12)
(4) Guatemala vs Guyana (11)
(5) Trinidad and Tobago vs Cuba (10)
(6) Martinique vs Suriname (9)
(7) Nicaragua vs Guadeloupe (8)
