Hattieville man charged with injuring sister’s partner after argument

By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged 23-year-old Brett Mejia of Hattieville, Belize District, for attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm.

Mejia and another are accused of attacking Kenroy Lanza in Hattieville on Sunday night during a domestic dispute.

According to police, they met Lanza and his common-law wife coming out to the road near Mile 15, George Price Highway; Lanza was bleeding from the neck.

Investigation revealed that Lanza and his common-law wife had come home from Lords Bank village around 1 in the afternoon and were socializing with family members and friends up to 8:30 p.m. When Lanza told his partner he wanted sexual intercourse, she refused, and that upset him enough to allegedly grab a machete and chase her into her mother’s house. Two of her brothers intervened and began a fight where Lanza was injured.
