By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Election Day is underway across the U.S. with Americans heading to the polls to cast their votes.
Polling hours vary by state, generally opening between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. local time, and closing between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m, Yahoo reports.
In Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, the first votes were cast at midnight, with a rare tie: three votes each for Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
While Dixville Notch isn’t a predictor of the overall result, it gives a fun early glimpse into what promises to be a close race.
Both candidates made their final pitches on Monday, crisscrossing key battleground states.
Trump held rallies in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, while Harris focused her efforts in Pennsylvania, making stops in Allentown, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia.
In a late-breaking endorsement, podcaster Joe Rogan threw his support behind Trump, citing his interview with Elon Musk as evidence of Trump’s strong leadership.
Rogan’s popular podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” has millions of young male listeners, a demographic both parties are courting.
As Election Day unfolds, TV networks are covering the event with anchors dressed in patriotic colors.
In addition to traditional “I Voted” stickers, several states, including Michigan, are offering unique designs.
While it’s still too early to predict a winner, both Trump and Harris need 270 electoral votes to secure victory, and this tight race could extend beyond tonight as more votes are counted.
