By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes managed to edge out champions Port Layola 1-0 at FFB Stadium on Sunday, November 3 in their last Premier League of Belize regular season match.
Desmond Wade, who has been prolific for the league leaders of late, scored Verdes’ lone goal in the 47th minute.
Verdes finished the regular season with 24 points from eight wins and two losses. Port Layola had to be content with the second position with 19 points from six victories, one draw, and three losses.
Verdes had seen their game postponed three times until they finally got it in the bag after three postponements due to bad weather. The last postponement came just the day before on Saturday, when the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen was deemed unfit to play on after a heavy mid-afternoon downpour in the westernmost town.
Verdes contended that the game was called off too soon but said they would abide by the PLB ruling and took the game to Belmopan the following day.
