By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: During an appearance on the UDP’s Wave radio this morning, Tracy Panton thanked all the delegates for participating in the convention on October 20.
Panton says that the delegates gave the leadership team a clear mandate and they are the ones who decide the way forward.
Panton also explained that this commenced after 232 delegates (superseding the threshold) signed a petition for a national convention and that request was disregarded by the “former party chairman.”
Panton claims that the “former party leader” walked away from mediation.
Panton explained that at the convention, the delegates made the decision to recall the former party leader.
“There was also a motion for an interim party leader to serve from now until elections and it was unanimously voted for me to serve in that capacity,” Panton said.
In addition, Panton says that there has been an “arbitral removal” of 8 standard bearers and unilateral appointment of 4 new standard bearers of the party and then an attempt to expel 4 senior members of the UDP and the “situation got untenable.”
