By Horace Palacio: Belizeans can enjoy a beautiful day today with sunny skies and warm temperatures. However, the National Meteorological Service forecasts a change in the weather for Sunday with an increase in showers and thunderstorms.
Currently, light northerly airflow brings sunny skies with a few cloudy spells. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 89°F along the coast and 92°F inland. Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy with isolated showers or thunderstorms.
Out at sea, conditions are favorable with light chop and waves reaching 2-4 feet. Winds are blowing from the north-northwest at 5-15 knots.
In the tropics, Tropical Storm Leslie poses no threat to Belize. It is located far out in the Atlantic and moving to the northeast. However, a new weather system west of the Cabo Verde Islands has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. This system bears watching as it moves westward.
Looking ahead to Sunday, expect a gradual increase in showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. While Sunday morning may start fair, the afternoon will likely bring widespread rain across the country.
Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and be prepared for the change in conditions.
