By Horace Palacio: Belize’s Deputy Prime Minister, Cordel Hyde, is among the foreign dignitaries scheduled to attend Taiwan’s National Day celebrations in Taipei next week. This visit underscores the ongoing diplomatic relationship between Belize and Taiwan, with Belize being one of the few countries maintaining formal ties with Taiwan over China.
Cordel Hyde, along with Montgomery Daniel, the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Lucrecia Peinado, the First Lady of Guatemala, will participate in a series of events surrounding Taiwan’s Double Ten National Day on October 10. These leaders will meet with senior Taiwanese officials, including President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
During the visit, the foreign representatives will also engage in discussions with multiple government agencies to explore advancements in semiconductors, public health, and cultural industries, all aimed at fostering development in these areas.
This visit highlights the importance of international diplomacy and showcases the growing bond between Taiwan and its remaining diplomatic allies, including Belize.
