By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon resulted in more than 270 deaths, marking the deadliest day since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war.
According to the Associated Press, the Israeli military has intensified its campaign against Hezbollah, urging residents in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate as it expands its air operations.
Thousands fled towards Beirut, causing significant traffic congestion as the main highway from Sidon became jammed.
The strikes, which injured over 1,000, targeted hospitals, medical centers, and residential areas, prompting the Lebanese government to close schools and prepare shelters.
The Israeli military reported hitting around 800 targets, asserting it aimed to dismantle Hezbollah’s military capabilities, while Hezbollah retaliated with rocket fire into northern Israel.
The ongoing conflict has raised fears of a broader war, as hostilities continue alongside Israel’s operations in Gaza.
Lebanese authorities are on high alert, and the death toll from the latest strikes has caused international concern over the escalating violence and humanitarian impact on civilians.
