By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged four individuals following a drug bust in northern Belize.
About 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, police executed a search warrant at the residence of 35-year-old Armando Torrez, a Belizean fisherman of the Corozal District. Present at the time of the search, along with Torrez, were 36-year-old Mirna Durantes and 32-year-old Delwyn Novelo both of Corozal District and 37-year-old Nigel Neal, all of whom are also from the Corozal District of the Belize District.
The search led to the discovery of 25 parcels of cocaine, amounting to a combined total 62.567 pounds. Samples were taken from all 25 parcels, which were subsequently labeled.
Today, police formally charged Armando Israel Torres, Mirna Mira Durantes, Delwyn Gildardo Novelo, and Nigel Alexander Neal with “Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply.” They were arraigned at the Corozal Magistrate’s Court, where Armando Israel Torres pleaded guilty with an explanation, while the others pleaded not guilty. No plea was entered for Torres. All four individuals have been remanded to the Kolbe Foundation until Friday, November 15, 2024.
