By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Former UDP Chairman Alberto August today issued a statement to explain why he is not supporting the effort to recall party leader Shyne Barrow.
According to August, he owes the delegates an explanation having served his party in various capacities.
“Yes, I headed the charge in October 2022 to recall the Hon. Shyne Barrow as Party Leader.
Ten months later however, on August 13, 2023, the National Party Council (NPC) passed a resolution, committing the Party to proceed into the next General Election with the current Party Leader and the elected Executive,” August explained.
August says that he is now supporting the leadership because, apart from abiding by the August 13, 2023 Resolution of the NPC, he believes that “this is NOT the time, so close to a general election, to be dividing our Party.”
In addition, August says that he has seen a notable improvement in the manner in which the Party Leader conducts the business of the Party,
“My plea therefore is for all of us to unite with the current leadership and move forward to defeat the PUP,” August said.
