
We are highlighting some of the awardees for the Prince Claus Fund’s SEED Award 2024. Today, we present Sasha-Kay Nicole, who advocates for gender equality through her artistic practice in performance and photography.

Each responding to their local context in a distinctly artistic way, they are challenging the status quo and crafting narratives that reflect the complexities of our time.”
Sasha-Kay Nicole is a visual activist, experimental photographer, and performance artist based in Jamaica. Sasha-Kay’s powerful work intertwines personal narratives with the contemporary struggles faced by Jamaican schoolgirls, addressing issues like gender-based abuse, teenage pregnancy, and femicide. Her art serves as a poignant reflection of societal challenges often silenced or overlooked.
Sasha-Kay earned an honours BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Edna Manley College in 2021 and is currently pursuing an M.F.A in Studio Art at the University of Texas at Austin.She has exhibited widely, including notable shows like “The Face of Us at the National Gallery of Jamaica” (2023), “Contours of the Interior” at VisArts Center (2023), and the impactful “Sighting black girlhood project” at New Local Space Kingston (2022).
