By Breaking Belize News Staff: Director of Local Government Clifford King explained to Breaking Belize News that the Trade License Bill has successfully passed through the House of Senate.
The newly enacted law introduces a major change for businesses, including taxi operators, who are now subject to a capped trade licensing fee.
Under the revised legislation, businesses will continue to pay trade licensing fees, but for taxi operators specifically, the fee has been standardized at a maximum of $1 per day.
This cap ensures that no local council across Belize can impose a fee exceeding this amount.
The new fee structure will take effect on January 1, 2025.
It’s important to note that this cap does not introduce an additional fee but rather sets a limit on the amount that can be charged, aligning with existing fees that operators are already paying.
The updated law replaces the previous one, aiming to deliver a more stable, predictable, and transparent trade licensing regime for businesses across the country.
All businesses operating in towns and cities throughout Belize are subject to trade licensing fees.
