By Aaron Humes: In reference to the shooting death of Stanley Moore, police have formally arrested and charged 26-year-old Ulide Allen of Belize City for the crimes of Murder, Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Dangerous Harm.

This afternoon police escorted Allen, a construction worker and resident of Laura Dunn Street who is known to be a gang associate of the PIV (Peace in the Valley) group, under heavy guard to the Magistrates Court, where he was read his charges.

It is alleged that on June 23, he and Marquis Conorquie murdered Stanley Jerome Moore and attempted to murder Joshua Gillett with the use of a dangerous instrument, to wit, a firearm. Allen was also read a charge of use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm upon Gillett.

Due to the nature of the offenses, no plea was taken from Allen. Because the offenses are alleged to have occurred with the use of a firearm, under Section 16 (1) of the Firearms Act, no bail could be offered and Allen was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 17, 2024.

Allen now joins Marquis Anthony Conorquie, 24, a Construction Worker of the Saint Martin’s De Pores area, Belize City, who was apprehended and charged shortly after the murder.

Police say they apprehended Allen early this morning, Friday, at around 1:00 a.m., within PIV territory at a known hideout.

32-year-old Moore, a labourer of Madam Liz Avenue, Belize City, and Gillett, 27, a Fisherman of West Collet Canal, Belize City, were at about 4:10 p.m., driving on Central American Boulevard heading towards Oleander Street, Belize City when upon reaching the corner of Mahogany Street Extension & Amandala Drive, two men on a motorcyle drove up beside Gillett’s BMW.

The male passenger on the back of themotorcycle pointed a firearm and fired several shots towards the direction of the men, causing their injuries. The two men on the motorcycle then drove off towards the direction of Amandala Drive and escaped. The victims fled toward Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where Moore was found dead in the vehicle in the parking lot while Gillett was treated.
