By Breaking Belize News Staff: Kenrick Whitfield Cumberbatch, a 62-year-old senior citizen and vendor residing in the Belama Phase 5 area, was brought before the court on Thursday on charges of possession with intent to supply marijuana for the purpose of drug trafficking. Police allege they found 67.4 grams of cannabis at his residence during a search conducted on Wednesday.
Cumberbatch, who buys and sells bottles for a living, appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #2. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. With no objection to bail from the prosecution, Cumberbatch was granted bail in the sum of $2,000, which he met. The conditions of his bail stipulate that he must not be arrested or charged with any similar drug-related offenses while out on bail, or risk having his bail revoked.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at around 5:45 p.m. when a police team executed a search warrant at Cumberbatch’s Green Street home. Upon searching a room in the house, police discovered a yellow plastic bag containing several smaller bags filled with green leafy substances suspected to be cannabis. Additionally, a brown wallet containing Cumberbatch’s voter identification card and a total of $231 in various currencies was found, which police believe to be proceeds from drug sales.
Cumberbatch is scheduled to return to court on October 10, 2024, where the case will proceed.
