By Horace Palacio: The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued a morning forecast for today, July 20, 2024, indicating that moist and unstable conditions will continue to linger across the country. Residents can expect mostly cloudy skies throughout the day with intermittent showers and thunderstorms affecting most areas.
The 24-hour forecast predicts cloudy skies tonight with a few outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms. Marine conditions will be choppy to moderate with easterly winds blowing at 10-20 knots and waves reaching 3-6 feet.
Temperatures will vary across the country, with the coast experiencing highs of 87°F (31°C) and lows of 81°F (27°C). Inland areas can expect warmer temperatures, reaching 92°F (33°C) during the day and dropping to 74°F (23°C) at night. Hilly regions will have cooler temperatures, with highs of 80°F (27°C) and lows of 68°F (20°C).
The Tropical Weather Outlook for the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico indicates that tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.
The forecast for Sunday and Sunday night predicts cloudy intervals with a few showers and thunderstorms, primarily affecting the southern and some coastal areas.
Today’s high tides will occur at 8:34 AM and 10:26 PM, while low tides will occur at 4:14 PM and 3:00 AM tomorrow. Sunrise is at 5:28 AM, and sunset is at 6:29 PM today. Moonrise is at 6:16 PM today, and moonset is at 5:32 AM tomorrow.
Residents are advised to exercise caution during the wet weather and take necessary precautions to avoid potential hazards such as flooding and lightning strikes. Boaters and seafarers should be mindful of the choppy sea conditions and adjust their plans accordingly.
