By Aaron Humes: Dr Osmond Martinez appears to be well on his way to holding the Toledo East seat in the House of Representatives for the ruling People’s United Party according to initial, partial results from the count in Punta Gorda Town.
With mostly Punta Gorda-area boxes counted, Martinez has amassed a unofficial 2,943 votes, well ahead of United Democratic Party rival Dennis Williams on 1,066 and the People’s National Party’s Wil Maheia on 197, with 39 spoilt ballots.
Boxes from area 113, the village of Bella Vista, are trending in favour of hometown boy Martinez, potentially making the result a foregone conclusion. The PUP say they are even confident they can win the traditional UDP strongholds of Monkey River and Barranco.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the final result, due by about midnight.
