By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Tragedy struck early Sunday morning on the George Price Highway near Harmonyville, as Bernard Sylvian Staine, a 59-year-old resident of Franks Eddy Village in the Cayo District, lost his life in a devastating accident involving a police officer.
According to reports, Francis Rodriguez Jr., a police officer from St. Matthews Village, was driving his black 4 Runner heading from east to west.
At about 1am, Rodriguez saw a red and black ATV parked directly in the middle of the highway.
Rodriguez says that to avoid crashing, he swerved sharply, but unfortunately, he was unable to prevent his vehicle from striking the ATV.
The impact of the collision caused the ATV’s driver, Staine, to be thrown from the ATV, resulting in fatal injuries that tragically claimed his life.
Authorities are investigating.
