Belize play Venezuela in Classification 5-8 game in FIBA U18 AmeriCup on Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Following Friday’s 79-69 loss to the Dominican Republic in the Quarterfinals, Belize will be playing against Venezuela in Classification 5-8 playoffs on Saturday.

The game tips off at 12:10 pm (3:10 pm Argentina time) at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina. (To see the game, click here).

Belize were quite competitive against the Dominican Republic but despite a formidable performance by forward Josiah Moseley, who tallied 25 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and three steals, our boys were hindered by early foul trouble by captain and Douglas Langford, who was benched early after accumulating thee personal fouls in the first quarter.

Langford, who made a formidable duo with Moseley well, was limited to three points and 11 rebounds.

Ian Parham contributed 17 points and tallied three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Wilford Dawson netted 14 and pulled six boards.

The loss not only meant that the team couldn’t advance to the semifinals, but also meant not being able to earn a ticket for the 2025 U19 World Cup.

Today, Belize will attempt to beat Venezuela to finish either fifth or sixth. A loss today will signify that on Sunday, Team Belize will play in the seventh/eight ranking game.

In the other games on Friday, the United States beat Puerto Rico 98-66, Canada downed Brazil 72-68, and Argentina defeated Venezuela 79-75.

The United States, Canada, the Dominican Republic and Argentina qualified to the semifinals and earned tickets to the 2025 U19 World Cup..

On Saturday morning, Brazil defeated Puerto Rico 69-55 in the first Classification 5-8 game. Belize are facing Venezuela at 12:10 pm in the second Classification 5-8 game.

Canada take on the United States at 2:40 pm in the first semifinal and Argentina close the day against the Dominican Republic at 5:10 pm in the second semifinal.

The final Classification 5-8 games, the Third Place game, and the Final will be played on Sunday.
