By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Over the last 2 days, the Community Policing Unit of the Belize Police Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, commemorated the graduation of approximately 225 primary school students from the Positive Engagement and Civic Education Program (PEACE).

The ceremony, held in honor of the students from San Pedro and Caye Caulker primary schools, marked the successful completion of an 11-week training program facilitated by community policing officers and supported by the respective school teachers.

Commander Howell Gillett of the Community Policing Unit addressed the graduates, expressing immense pride and excitement for their achievement.

He shared poignant insights with the students, emphasizing the valuable lessons learned throughout the program and urging them to carry these teachings forward as they embark on their journeys.

Among the key messages conveyed by Commander Gillett were the importance of effective communication, conflict resolution skills, civic pride, and community engagement.

He emphasized the significance of using one’s voice to advocate for positive change, fostering supportive communities, and demonstrating responsible citizenship through informed decision-making and active participation.

Commander Gillett underscored the students’ role as future leaders, encouraging them to lead by example, inspire others, and uphold values of responsibility and respect. He highlighted the collaborative relationship between the police and the community, reassuring the graduates of the police’s commitment to their safety and well-being.

In closing, Commander Gillett commended the graduates for their accomplishments and encouraged them to continue engaging positively, striving for personal growth, and making meaningful contributions to their communities.
