Canada beat Venezuela 89-53 in Group A at FIBA U18 AmeriCup

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Canada defeated Venezuela 89-53 in Wednesday’s first game and moved up to the top spot in Group A with a 2-1 record at FIBA U18 AmeriCup at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Tristan Beckford tallied 17 points to lead the Canadians. Olivier Rioux and Justus Haseley chipped in ten points each.

Anthony Reyes and Estoyan Vargas netted 11 apiece for Venezuela who fell to a 1-2 record.

The Dominican Republic (2-0), Centrobasket subchampions, are playing Centrobasket Champions Puerto Rico (0-2) in the second Group A game on Wednesday.

Later on Wednesday in Group B, Brazil (1-1) battle the United States (2-0) at 2:40 pm. Belize (1-1) close off against winless Argentina (0-2) at 5:10 pm (8:10 pm Argentina time) in Group B. (To see the game, click here.)

Currently, the United States (2-0) lead Group B ahead of Belize (1-1), Brazil (1-1), and Argentina (0-2).

At the moment, Canada (2-1) lead Group A over the Dominican Republic (2-0), Venezuela (1-2), and Puerto Rico (0-2).

Final group standings will be determined by the end of the day.

All eight teams advance to the playoffs on Friday where the number one seeded team from one group will play the fourth from the other and the second seeded will take on the third seeded from the other. On Saturday, Friday’s winners play the semifinals and the losing teams face each other in ranking games.

The Final ranking games, including the Final and third place game, will be played on Sunday.
