St. Martin’s Credit Union celebrates 73rd Annual General Meeting

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, May 31, 2024, St. Martin’s Credit Union celebrated its 73rd Annual General Meeting.

This marked a return to normalcy and continued growth for SMCU, welcoming over 400 of its member-owners at the Sacred Heart College auditorium in San Ignacio Town, Cayo.

Representatives from the Belize Credit Union League and other sister Credit Unions were in attendance.

The meeting commenced with comprehensive reports from all committees: the Credit Committee, the Supervisory Committee, the Board of Directors as well as from the Treasurer. Updates on the Credit Union’s operations over the past year were presented, highlighting significant achievements, ongoing projects, and the impact of reduced interest rates on the loans portfolio and profits.

A special report by the General Manager detailed the integration of the Credit Union with the National Payment System, the Loan Collection Tool that was rolled out, underscoring the Credit Union’s commitment to technological advancements and improved service delivery.

The forum provided member-owners with an opportunity to voice their concerns and commendations to the Board of Directors.

“A renewed commitment to enhancing member service and operational efficiency was affirmed by the Board. This year, there were no elections as the Joint Officers have one more year to serve in their current terms,” SMCU noted.

Members also participated in a series of raffles, which included cash prizes, a refrigerator, a washing machine, an early bird cash prize, and other small appliances.

SMCU thanked all members for being a part of this successful event.
