By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: According to a recent opinion poll conducted by Parametria, the lead of Claudia Sheinbaum, former Mexico City mayor and candidate of the ruling party, has slightly narrowed ahead of the presidential election scheduled for June 2. Despite this, she remains the clear frontrunner.
In the survey conducted from April 25 to 29, Sheinbaum, representing the leftist National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), garnered 44% support, maintaining a significant lead over Xochitl Galvez, the candidate of a right-left alliance, who secured 31% support.
Comparatively, a survey conducted by the same firm in February showed Sheinbaum with 49% support and Galvez with only 29%.
The recent poll also indicated an increase in support for Jorge Alvarez Maynez of the opposition center-left Citizens’ Movement (MC), who obtained 8% support, marking a three-point rise since February.
Sheinbaum, a 61-year-old scientist with a longstanding alliance with the current President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, stands poised to potentially become the first female President of the country.
