Almost 25% of Squad 97 are Women police officers

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 19, 2024, the Belize Police Department welcomed 231 new police officers. Of those, 57 are women police officers.

Minister of Home Affairs commended Squad 97 for being the largest recruit squad in Belize’s history and also for having almost 25% of women trainees.

“You make history today because you are members of the largest recruit squad in Belizean history. Today we are honored to welcome a cadre of 231 police officers. More significant than that, Squad 97 has proven to be a squad of firsts with an unprecedented 57 of its trainees being women. This constitutes nearly 25% of the squad, surpassing the United Nations standard of just 20%,” Musa said.

Musa encouraged the new police officers to work with the community for a safer Belize.
