Mother and daughter’s attacker in Belmopan to be charged

By Aaron Humes: When 49-year-old Ronald Gibson exits the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, it will be into the arms of police, waiting with charge sheets for robbery.

Gibson is accused of attempting to rob a woman and her daughter along the busy central walkway near Independence Plaza, Belmopan, on Friday evening, only to allegedly be shot by his would-be victims.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police, detailed what happened for reporters: “On Friday night, a lady was working on the sidewalk in Belmopan upon she and her daughter were accosted by a male person who demanded that they hand over their properties. The lady took out her licensed firearm and ordered the person to stop, and he made a move towards her and she fired one single shot at him with her licensed firearm causing injuries to his stomach region. He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital where he received treatment and is currently admitted in stable condition and under police guard. [We] hope that once he is released from the hospital that he’ll be charged for the crime of attempted robbery.”
