Premier League of Belize: Champions Altitude trample Belmopan Bandits 5-2, move up to 2nd place

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Champions Altitude romped over the Belmopan Bandits at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday, beating them 5-2 in Week 12 of the Premier League of Belize 2023-24 Closing Championship.

Ashton Torres opened the scoring for Altitude in the 22^nd minute, but the Bandits responded immediately, with Shemar Ingram scoring in the 29^th to equalize at 1-1.

Altitude took lead again in the 35^th minute off a goal by Erwin Middleton and made it 3-1 when Andrés Orozco scored in the 46^th as action resumed after the halftime break.

Again, the Bandits rebounded when Jonard Castillo scored one in the 49^th for a 3-2 score. However, Altitude proved too strong for the Bandits as captain Dellon ‘Dee Breezy’ Torres converted in the 57^th to make it 4-2 and Dejmari Pop put the icing on the cake in the 82^nd for the final 5-2 victory.

Altitude moved up to second place with 23 points ahead of Port Layola (20), who should be active on Sunday against Progresso at 4:00 pm at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City. Port will be looking to regain the second position in the ranking.

Benque Viejo United, who also have 20 points like Port Layola, will also be looking to keep in stride when they meet Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga at 4:00 pm as well.

In the other Saturday game, Police Benque (Club Deportivo Benque) stunned Verdes at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen, pulling off a 1-1 draw.
