The Cayo District Agriculture department, in collaboration with Mopan Technical High School, successfully conducted a comprehensive Sheep Husbandry Training for 34 enthusiastic third form students. The training aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills in sheep farming, covering various aspects of husbandry.
The training which was facilitated by Livestock Extension Officer, Mr. Franklin Padron, encompassed both theoretical and practical sessions. Students were immersed in a hands-on learning experience, gaining insights into crucial aspects of sheep farming.
The Key components of the training included understanding the importance of providing appropriate shelter and living conditions for sheep. Educating students on the criteria for choosing quality breeding stock to ensure the production of healthy and robust sheep. Learning effective techniques for deworming to maintain the overall health and well-being of the sheep exploring methods to accurately determine the age of sheep, and vital aspect of managing a productive flock.
The training concluded with a showcase featuring the preparation of pork prime cuts. Mr. Padron demonstrated the process, providing valuable insights into the culinary arts associated with sheep farming. Two delectable recipes were shared with the students, including the preparation of Pork Chop Suey and Pork Chop Steaks. This initiative reflects the commitment of the Cayo District Agriculture department to empower the younger generation with practical agricultural knowledge.
