23-year-old electrician is dead after being electrocuted while working on faulty 110 volt outlet

By Jose Luis Cruz: An electrician, 23-year-old Terrell Matura, is dead after being electrocuted while working on a faulty 110 volt outlet. The incident occurred in the West Lake area of Western Paradise, Belize District, on Saturday morning while Matura was fixing the electrical outlet on a house.

The homeowner informed the police that she had hired Matura, a resident of Fresh Pond in Burrell Boom village, to address issues with two electrical outlets in the bathroom. Despite advising him to shut off the power before beginning the repairs, Matura reportedly dismissed the precaution, stating, “it’s only 110 [volts], that’s just a small jolt.”

Soon after he commenced his work in the attic, the homeowner heard Matura call out her name. She responded and checked the attic where she discovered Matura lying down and struggling to breathe. Reacting swiftly, she turned off the power and sought assistance from her brother and neighbor before dialing 911.

Despite efforts to revive him, Matura remained unresponsive and was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
