Duo accused of robbing businessman’s firearm in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: Two Belize City men accused of the robbery of a firearm of a Stann Creek District businessman have been remanded on charges.

This afternoon in Belmopan, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero detailed the incident: “On Friday, January 19th, 2024, Dennis Morey reported that he was on Plues Street conducting business when he was approached by two [men] armed with firearms. The persons then proceeded to hold him up and they stole from him one .38 revolver and then made good their escape. An investigation was carried out and we have since arrested and charged Edward Saldano and Elan White for the crime of robbery.”

Saldano, 24, alias “Scrubbie,” of Far West Street, Belize City, and White, 21, from Ladyville, appeared in court on a joint charge of robbery of the Smith and Wesson firearm valued at $3,895.

Both pleaded not guilty after Saldano asked what the penalty for the offense was and was told it would be no less than five years in prison if convicted.

Due to the nature of the offense, bail was denied and both men were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 22, 2024.
