By Breaking Belize News Staff: Fifty-four-year-old Clinton Ashley Ebanks, a resident of Sandhill Village, was fined $300 in court for stealing a $500 boat engine from his former boss, who he claims did not pay him for work he had done.

Banks appeared in court unrepresented on Monday and pleaded guilty to a single count of theft. For his early guilty plea, he was imposed a non-custodial sentence of a fine plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by April 30, or face one month in prison.

The boat engine’w owner reported to police that on January 20, he was washing his boat when he noticed the engine was missing. When he reviewed his surveillance footage, he saw that Ebanks had taken the engine without his permission. In court, Ebanks claimed that his former boss had owned him money, which is why he took the engine, but as it turned out, the engine was not even working so he sold it for only $15.
