Community Rallies Behind Local Resident Facing Health Struggles: Fundraiser Launched for Critical Eye Surgery

Abel Coleman, presently 34 years old and a graduate of Toledo Community College (TCC), has led a life marked by dedication to education and various professions. Initially a teacher at TCC, where he imparted knowledge in subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, and physics, Abel became the main provider for the household after the tragic passing of his sister, Vanessa, in 2012. Despite his various roles and responsibilities, Abel has always lived at home with his mother, Ms. Franzine Garcia.

Abel’s professional journey includes a brief stint as a Traffic Control Officer at the Civil Aviation Department in 2015. However, subsequent career paths led him to diverse roles, including a Quality Control Technician at Smart Communications Limited. To supplement his income, Abel has been offering computer and phone repair services from his residence, garnering support from those who recognize his skills.

In 2022, while working as a Sales Representative at Fultec Systems Limited, Abel encountered health issues. His demanding role, which included warehouse responsibilities, exacerbated his eye condition. After discovering a retinal detachment in his left eye, Abel made the difficult decision to leave the position, prioritizing his health over the demanding workload.

Recently, Ms. Franzine Garcia travelled from Punta Gorda to Belize City for Abel’s check-up at the BCVI facility. In a brave move, Ms. Garcia decided to make Abel’s condition public, resulting in an outpouring of support from the community. Grateful for the assistance received, she expressed her thanks for the shared posts, revealing that a generous individual has donated a prize for a fundraising raffle.

The prize, a two-night stay for two at Island Magic Beach Resort, complete with round-trip transportation via water taxi and breakfast, is available for just $10 per chance.
