By Breaking Belize News Staff: Akeem Montes, 21, was fined in court on Tuesday for possession of crack cocaine and for attempting to escape from police while being escorted to the police station.
Montes appeared in court unrepresented and was read two charges; one of possession of a controlled drug for an undetermined quantity of crack cocaine and for escape from lawful custody.
Montes pleaded guilty and was fined $200 plus $5 cost of court for drug possession and $300 for escape plus $5 cost of court to a total of $510. He was given until April 16 to pay, in default 2 months in prison.
According to police, on January 11, Montes was spotted by police in the Gungulung area of Belize City. When he was searched, police found a small amount of crack on him and were escorting him to the police station when he jumped out of the pan of the police pickup truck. Police quickly apprehended him and he was charged.
