Vol 37 of The Caribbean Writer (“Carrying: Recognition and Repair”) is now available. [Cover art by artist Alexis Camarena.]

Description: The Caribbean Writer’s 2023 theme is “Carrying: Recognition and Repair.” We might say that our theme is expressed bi-focally through Volume 37’s, cover art, created by Virgin Islands artist Alexis Camarena. How is this thematic expression a bifocal experience? We consider that interpreting this cover art close up, a writer might imagine the old “carrying” the new, and new growth forging new ground and damaged life supporting new life, and life expressing itself beyond death. Then, suddenly, the angle of vision becomes wider, as we step back to explore these ideas as they raise themselves into the stories, poems, essays, book reviews and plays found in Volume 37. Finally, all become sharply focused and the notion of “carrying” comes full circle.”
