By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prime Minister John Briceño is scheduled to attend the swearing in ceremony of Guatemala’s President elect Bernardo Arevalo.
President-elect Arevalo emerged victorious in the August 2023 Presidential elections.
Shortly following the elections, Arevalo’s Semilla offices was raided prompting countrywide protests.
Guatemalans blocked roads and demanded the resignation of Attorney General Consuelo Porras for what they say were clear attempts to undermine their nation’s democracy.
Now, Guatemalans are hoping for a smooth transition for President-elect Arevalo.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Miguel Ángel Asturias National Theater.
