By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, blockades continued in Corozal as members of the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association blocked the Philip Goldson Highway.
This afternoon, members of the Association briefly attempted to prevent Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai from leaving the area near SIRDI.
They are demanding that the Prime Minister himself come to Buena Vista, rather than meeting with Mai in Orange Walk Town.
Police are on the ground and negotiating with BSCFA leaders not to escalate further at this time.
BBN understands that Prime Minister John Briceno will meet with Minister Mai and the negotiating team in Orange Walk in a few minutes in an effort to reach a compromise and come to a new commercial agreement and end the current impasse.
