By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Altitude let go the opportunity to take the lead in the first leg of 2023-24 Opening Season Finals allowing Port Layola to get away with a 0-0 draw at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday night.
Both teams were missing their captains as Altitude’s Dellon ‘Dee Breezy’ Torres is nursing a left knee injury while Port’s Ian Gaynair sat out the match due to a red card received in the semifinal against Verdes.

However, Port was also missing leading goalscorer Gilroy ‘Bredda’ Thurton who fractured his right ankle in the semifinal against Progresso. Thurton is not only missing out on the Finals but may miss the entire 2023-24 Closing Season.
Both clubs fought hard at ‘The Majestic’ as folk in the Mid-South call the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, but couldn’t come up with a goal.
Now they prepare for the second and definitive leg at Belize City’s Marion Jones Sporting Complex on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24.
