Belize Police Department and Spanish Lookout Community hands over new home to grandmother whose grandchild was bitten by snake

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On December 14, 2023, the National Community Policing Unit of the Belize Police Department through the partnership of the business community of Spanish Lookout handed over a house to a grandmother in Belize City.

Laverne Orosco recently went through a horrific ordeal when a snake entered her house and bit one of her grandchildren. 

The community policing officers led by Commander Community Policing, Howell Gillett learned of her horrible experience and sought help for her.

“We believe that by involving law enforcement adds credibility to the initiative, fostering trust within the community and ensuring transparency throughout the process.

Working with law enforcement provides an added layer of security, safeguarding the property and the well-being of the single mom, contributing to a safer living environment,” Gillett said.

Gillett said that a successful collaboration like this can set a positive precedent for future charitable endeavors, encouraging other organizations to work hand-in-hand with law enforcement for the greater good of the community.

“We look forward to even great police/community collaboration in 2024 and beyond,” Gillett added.
