By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño says work on what he described as the largest infrastructure project in Belize’s history is expected to begin next year.
The planned redevelopment of the Port of Belize represents a potential investment exceeding $800 million.
According to Briceño, the massive project will include deepening and widening the marine access to Belize City, construction of new cargo facilities and development of a modern cruise tourism gateway.
The Prime Minister said the project could transform Belize City while generating wider benefits for the national economy.
One of the most significant expected benefits, according to Briceño, is lower shipping costs.
He argued that a modern and more efficient cargo port could reduce the cost of importing goods into Belize, potentially providing savings that ultimately reach consumers.
The port project was among several major undertakings highlighted by the Prime Minister in his 2026 State of the Nation Address.
