7 Miles whip Santa Elena Royals United 6-1, win Cayo 1st Division Football Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 7 Miles are the new Cayo Football Association (CFA) 1^st Division Champions after beating Santa Elena Royals United 6-1 in the Final on Saturday, February 10 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

“Did it once again,” 7 Miles said in a  social media post.

“Sí se pudo. Congrats team, hard work pays off. 7 Miles FC Champs of the CFA first division tournament, securing a 6-1 win over Santa Elena Royals in [Sunday night’s] ball game. Want to thank all our fans for your continued support, seeing you all nx season. Congrats to all teams that made it to the semifinals as well.”

The match was initially scheduled for Sunday, January 28, when 32 minutes were played but the game was called off due to a blackout and rain.

During those 32 minutes, their main striker Dwight Zetino, who on Sunday was named the Championship’s Best Forward, suffered a double fracture to his left leg above the ankle.

7 Miles also received four other awards: Best Manager – Moses Waight, Final MVP – Alan Godoy, Best Goalkeeper – Alex Hernandez, and Best Defender Frankli Godoy (captain).

7 Miles also won the Cayo 1^st Division Championship in February 2023 in a 4-1 win over Esperanza as well. Last season, 7 Miles finished third in June 2023 with a 4-1 win over Santa Familia.

Western Raiders won the third place match 3-2 over Cristo Rey on January 28.
