68-year-old Estell Trapp bludgeoned to death with hammer by caretaker who reported himself to police

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a gruesome murder in the Orange Walk District where an elderly woman was found bludgeoned to death inside her home.

Around 7:15 a.m., officers responded to #50 Old Northern Highway, about five miles from Santa Martha Village, where they met 56-year-old caretaker, Eugene Ramirez. He reportedly told police there was a dead body inside the residence.

Police entered the wooden structure and discovered the lifeless body of Esthel Trapp, dressed in a white floral nightgown and covered with a purple sheet. She was found face up on the bedroom floor with apparent blood around her head.

Initial investigations revealed Ramirez had twice phoned police earlier that morning—around 3:00 a.m. and again at 5:30 a.m.—claiming he had argued with a woman and killed her, even providing his location. Officers eventually traced the scene where Trapp’s body was found.

A metal hammer, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the house. The victim’s body was processed at the scene, transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, and officially pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m. by Dr. Jair Osorio.

Police have since detained Ramirez, who now faces a charge of murder as investigations continue.
