By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 66-year-old Belize City resident, Rafael Cowo, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after he was found in possession of 0.24 grams of crack cocaine during a police search in Taylor’s Alley.
Cowo, who appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers in Court #1 on Monday, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug. Given his prior convictions for similar offenses, the Chief Magistrate imposed an immediate custodial sentence of eight months, effective Monday, October 27, 2025.
According to the facts presented in court, on Friday, October 24, 2025, around 5:55 p.m., police on mobile patrol along Orange Street observed a man acting suspiciously. The officers approached the individual, later identified as Cowo, and informed him that a search would be conducted for suspected drugs.
During the search, police found a white paper in the waistband of Cowo’s pants containing white rock-like substances suspected to be crack cocaine. The substance was later confirmed to be 0.24 grams of crack cocaine.
Cowo’s latest conviction adds to a history of previous drug-related offenses on record.
