65-year-old Anthony Codd walks free from charge of aggravated assault after complainant misses court

Posted: Saturday, October 11, 2025. 1:42 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: On Wednesday, a senior citizen, 65-year-old Anthony Codd of Belize City, saw a very serious offense of aggravated assault with a machete withdrawn when the virtual complainant did not show up in court to testify against him.

Codd was accused of pulling a machete on his tenant, to whom he had been renting a room.

But on the trial date, the complainant did not appear in court, and Codd, who did not have legal representation, saw the charge struck out for want of prosecution.

Speaking afterward, Codd said he had been waiting for this day to come and that he had been wrongfully accused and humiliatingly brought to court in handcuffs. According to Codd, the virtual complainant did not show up because he knew he had fabricated the story against him, and he is happy to finally be vindicated.
