61-year-old Frederick Tucker fined $255 after claiming he found cocaine in garbage

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 61-year-old Belize City stevedore was fined $255 after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine, which he claimed he had found in a garbage can.

Frederick Joseph Tucker, of North Creek, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, November 5, where he pleaded guilty to possession of 0.9 grams of cocaine.

Police reportedly found Tucker in possession of the drugs on Tuesday, November 3, near the intersection of North Creek Road and Seagull Street.

During mitigation, Tucker offered an unusual explanation for how he came into possession of the illegal substance.

“I went to a garbage can and I found it, honestly. I found the cocaine,” he told the court.

When the magistrate questioned why he had taken the drugs and kept them, Tucker admitted that he had simply held on to them.

Despite his explanation, Tucker pleaded guilty and received his first conviction for possession of a controlled drug.

He was fined $250, along with $5 in court costs, which must be paid by November 30, 2026. Failure to pay will result in one week of imprisonment.
