By Aaron Humes: Investigations are underway following the death of Daryl La Mont McCray, a 58-year-old American construction worker from Washington, who was participating in a recreational jet ski ride near Secret Beach, North Ambergris Caye, when he reportedly became unwell.
The Secret Beach Bar and Grill reported on social media, “We are deeply saddened to share that a visitor to our island experienced a medical emergency today while reportedly riding a rented jet ski. Despite immediate efforts to provide emergency care, the individual unfortunately passed away. Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones during this difficult time. We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities as they review this tragic incident.”
According to police, Daryl was with two friends when he suddenly went missing during their jet ski excursion around 2:30 this afternoon. Shortly after they discovered him floating face-up in the water, unresponsive, with his life jacket on. His body was retrieved, and CPR was administered by onlookers until he was transported to San Pedro Polyclinic, where he was pronounced dead at 5:11 p.m.
Initial investigations revealed no signs of physical injury or foul play. Daryl was in Belize with his wife for a friend’s wedding, police said. The police have recorded statements from witnesses and are awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
