By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Public Utilities has formally introduced an app that links Belize City residents to the ongoing electric bus route.

Per Mayor Bernard Wagner, the app will provide real-time information on where the buses are, their seating capacity and other information.

Chief Transport Officer Leon Gentle expects that eventually a national schedule will be adapted to the app to help Belizeans plan trips countrywide, including on the traditional bus routes. It is a conversation he says they will be having with incumbent bus operators.

Meanwhile, Wagner expressed the hope that students and older persons will soon no longer be subject to ‘substandard’ transportation, a dig at operators in the City that have complained about the cut into their profits and routes since the introduction of the electric buses in August.
