By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 40-year-old Belizean cook from Hattieville lost $250 to an alleged online scammer after she thought she was making a deposit to purchase an iPhone 13 Pro Max. On New Years Eve, the woman reported that on the afternoon of Thursday, 25th December 2025, she was browsing Facebook Marketplace when her attention was drawn to an iPhone 13 Pro Max advertised for sale at the price of $500.00 BZD under the Facebook profile “Belize Phone Hub.”

The complainant stated that she contacted the seller via Facebook Messenger and expressed interest in purchasing the phone. The seller then provided a WhatsApp number to facilitate communication and an agreement was made whereby the complainant would deposit $250, representing half of the purchase price, and the phone would be sent from Corozal. Once the phone was received, the buyer would pay the remaining $250.00.

The person operating under the Facebook profile “Belize Phone Hub” provided an Atlantic Bank account number, under the name of an individual having Hanson as their surname. On Monday, 29th December 2025, the complainant’s husband transferred the sum of $250.00 from his Belize Bank account to the Atlantic Bank account provided by the seller, and a copy of the online transfer receipt was sent to the Facebook Messenger profile “Belize Phone Hub.”

The complainant reported that after sending the receipt, she contacted the seller to inquire about the delivery of the phone. The seller informed her that the phone would be delivered the same day; however, it never arrived. Later that day, the complainant messaged the seller again and was told that the phone had already been sent and that confirmation would be provided the following day, Tuesday, 30th December 2025. However, up to New Years Eve, the phone had still not arrived.

When the phone did not arrive, the complainant claimed she tried several times to contact the seller, but all attempts were unsuccessful, and the seller has not responded.
