By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 34th Annual KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic, organized by KREM Radio in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) under the regulations of the International Cycling Union (UCI), is scheduled for Wednesday, January 1, 2025. The 34th New Year’s Classic promises a thrilling start to the new year with races for Men and Women across various categories, including Open Elite, U-23, Masters, Junior, and Youth.
The event will start at 9:00 a.m. and feature three different races:
Open Elite and Masters Race (including Masters & 50+):
- Start Time: 9:00 a.m.
- Start Location: Santa Elena Border, Corozal
- Route: Philip Goldson Highway, passing through Corozal and Orange Walk Towns, finishing in Belize City in front of Super Store on Central American Blvd.
- Distance: 92 miles
Male Junior/Youth and Open Women:
- Start Time: 9:30 a.m.
- Start Location: In front of the Town Hall, Orange Walk Town
- Route: Philip Goldson Highway, finishing in Belize City in front of Super Store on Central American Blvd.
- Distance: 54 miles
Women Junior/Youth:
- Start Time: 9:30 a.m.
- Start Location: Crooked Tree Roundabout
- Route: Philip Goldson Highway, finishing in Belize City in front of Super Store on Central American Blvd.
The 2025 edition of the race follows the success of the 2024 races, where American John DeLong, riding for Skyline, claimed his second KREM Classic win.
In the Women’s category, LA Sweat’s Kaya Cattouse won her fifth KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic.
For the Junior category, Tyler Tejeda of Team Valvoline secured back-to-back victories in the KREM New Year’s Day Junior Cycling Classic.
The 34th Annual KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic promises to be yet another exciting race.
