By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 33-year-old construction worker has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following an appearance in court on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old minor.
Shain Young, a resident of #77 May Flower Street, Belize City, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6. He was read a single charge of assault by penetration. No plea was taken, and the Senior Magistrate ensured that Young fully understood the charge against him.
The prosecution, led by Police Sergeant Christopher Smith, strongly objected to bail. Sgt. Smith cited the prevalence and serious nature of the crime, as well as the fact that Young is an acquaintance of the victim, raising a high possibility of witness interference if he were released. Senior Magistrate Dennison upheld the prosecution’s objections and denied bail. Young was remanded until August 6, 2026.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. The 12-year-old victim had gone to swim in a pond located in the Black Berry Ridge Estate area accompanied by her aunt, cousins, and Young, who was known to the family. The minor reported to the Ladyville Police Station, in the company of her mother, that while they were in the water, Young fondled her and assaulted her with his finger.
Young was subsequently detained by authorities earlier this morning, informed of the report, and formally charged.
